5th Stop: New Orleans

So we tried to take a picture of all the welcome signs as we drove through states, but this stretch was a little rough.
1. Notice we have a big crack through the passenger side of the windshield. I tried to avoid it, but in a panic it was sometimes forgotten.
2. When one misses the welcome sign, there is usually a welcome center sign afterwards. In my defense, Alabama's welcome sign was knocked over  on the side of the road, so I didn't have a fair chance.

 3. We had a system when Marc was driving he would give me a heads up to prepare to take the picture, and I had become pretty good at getting the picture. The system was destroyed when I was driving. (Marc thought we were going to die when I woke him up in a panic because he was going to miss the Mississippi sign. I gave him my phone with the camera ready, but this picture is all we got of the 2nd welcome center sign.)
 4. We resumed our system, though it had been shaken up a bit, so Louisiana was better, but still not up to par :)

Through this long stretch between Atlanta and New Orleans there were a lot of roads on stilts as we drove over swamps/lakes. It was a really neat view!

Our hotel was one road over from Bourbon Street, so we walked over for dinner once we got in. There was this fun Cafe Beignet inside this Musical Legends Park. It was so fun to listen to the jazz music while we ate our Gumbo and Po' boy sandwich.

We finished off the night with some classic New Orleans beignets. Tasty!

In the jazz park and on Bourbon Street. Though this was a fun place, I must admit there are a lot of bad smells. There were a couple times we had to move quickly to get away from some people and their strong stenches.

We had a tasty breakfast in this cozy little cafe. I had never had french toast on french bread before. It was a little different, but still tasty.
After breakfast we wondered over to the French Market for some more sightseeing.

The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, which was founded about 1718, though it was been pretty much completely remodeled/rebuilt since then. It was a cool cathedral to visit.

Not that you can see it too well, but our back drop is none other than the mighty Mississippi.

We received a nice downpour to cool everything down and kick up the humidity a bit.
 Along our walk.

 The view out the window.

And then we just couldn't resit the German Jägerhaus for some schnitzel and wurst. The food was tasty, but in real New Orleans style we had a cockroach join us on the table. Marc smashed it under the lemon and just left it there for the server... We really wanted to stay and watch the clean-up but it was a small place and we weren't sure how that'd look.

And then we headed out past the Superdome, and up towards Baton Rouge,
Where we stopped to see this beautiful building :) Baton Rouge LDS Temple
